Rice Diet Program

The Rice Diet is NOT a rice-based eating plan(!), it's a medically supervised weight-loss program for rapid weight-reduction, designed by Duke University for the treatment of obesity, diabetes and raised blood pressure (hypertension).

Patients from all over the world visit the Rice Diet center in Durham, NC, for the treatment of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and renal disease. In addition to planned calorie-controlled meals, patients are attended daily by medical staff, and may participate in daily stress management, yoga, group therapy, and nutritional lectures.

After a brief initial period where menu selection is limited, paticipants choose form a large selection of items consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, fish, and legumes (beans). Variety is assured as the menu changes every day.

Rice Diet Program - Simple and Medically Supervised

The program is simple, easy to prepare and can be obtained throughout the world. Three meals are served each day at the Rice House. The medical staff of doctors, physician’s assistants, dietitians, and nurses will supervise your transition from Phase I to Phase II.

In essence, the Rice Diet is a low-fat, low-sodium and primarily vegetarian eating plan. It consists of two phases.

Rice Diet Phase I
Phase I of the program incorporates grains and fruits. This phase needs medical supervision - it should not be attempted at home. Rice Diet experts recommend that you stay on Phase I as long as possible – at least half the time of your stay at the center.

Rice Diet Phase II
Phase II includes choices of vegetables, beans and other carbohydrates, in addition to grains and fruit. Fish is also served once per week.

Rice Diet Program - Vegetarian Approach Recommended

Rice Diet experts recommend you eat vegetarian until you attain your goals, either here or at home, but it is possible to add non-fat dairy products, fish and lean meats along the way, if one’s medical condition permits.

How Much Does the Rice Diet Program Cost

Program fees for the first week are $2100, second week $ 900; third week; $700; fourth week $500. Each additional week is $490.00. If you stay for 12 consecutive weeks or longer, the Program fee is reduced to $370 per week beginning the 13th week and each consecutive week thereafter.

Benefits of the Rice Diet Program - A Comprehensive Solution

The Rice Diet has achieved excellent results in weight loss, reduction of blood pressure and cholesterol, and offers a range of health benefits. Because it is medically supervised and offers advice on nutrition, exercise and general lifestyle improvements (eg. stress), it represents a comprehensive solution to weight-related health problems. Highly recommended. The only drawback is the cost.
