The standard Jenny Craig ABC Program involves eating Jenny Craig foods - adding fruits, vegetables, dairy foods and whole grains - and meeting one-on-one with a Jenny Craig counselor every week.

Deluxe Jenny Craig membership, plus a month's worth of foods and supplements, can add up to an initial investment of more than $400 for the first month of the program.

This is because members are also encouraged to buy Jenny Craig's vitamin/mineral supplements, called Daily Success ($17.99 - for a 28-day supply). as well as an antioxidant formula called ProTect Plus ($12.50) and a chocolate-flavored calcium chew ($12.50).

The Jenny Craig weight loss program philosophy features a lifestyle or holistic approach to weight management, which includes building a healthy relationship with food and becoming more physically active.

However, the all-encompassing diet support offered - Jenny Craig foods, Jenny Craig supplements, Jenny Craig counseling - can leave dieters struggling once they leave the program. Liz Ward, M.S., R.D., a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association says:

"It's too much of a crutch for my taste. Providing most of the foods pre-prepared is like treating the symptoms, rather than the underlying cause of the weight problem."
